Autism Navigator, created by FSU faculty and staff with support from NIH, is featured in a new Science Coalition report that highlights the importance of federally funded research to U.S. economic growth. Sparking Economic Growth, How Fundamental Research Drives Economic Growth and Innovation, is the fourth in a series of reports that looks at individual companies that were seeded by federal research investments at TSC-member institutions. As captured in the report, Autism Navigator is a web-based instructional program designed to bridge the gap between science and practice. 

The report is being shared with policymakers on and off of the Hill through a series of April events that coincide with the start of the annual appropriations process and discussions of an infrastructure package. 

FSU joined 349 other groups in a letter to President-elect Biden calling for the incoming administration to place a high priority on the National Institutes of Health. More specifically, the letter detailed a need for emergency supplemental funding to combat COVID-19 and sustain other areas of biomedical research. Additionally, the letter urged continued annual appropriations increases for NIH. 

As the FY 2021 appropriations gets started on Capitol Hill, FSU joined 334 other organizations in a statement – crafted by the Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research – supporting a $44.7B budget for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The figure is a $3 billion dollar increase from FY 2020. The statement notes that bipartisan congressional support for NIH over the last few years has re-energized the biomedical research community.

Earlier today, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that oversees health and education programs put forward a FY 2018 increase of $2 billion or 5.9% for the National Institutes of Health and a 1.7% increase for the discretionary part of the Pell Grant program that would result in a new maximum award of $6,020. ...
