Research Interest Groups at FSU

Across the FSU campus, faculty-driven groups are forming around shared research interest areas. Research Development supports a number of these university-wide Research Interest Groups (RIGs) aimed at promoting interdisciplinary research. These groups convene regularly to discuss research interests and share ideas. Outcomes from RIGs can include workshops, new collaborations, and joint grant proposals. In addition, a number of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) have also been formed with these same goals in mind. Interested faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students should reach out to the Faculty Champion or RD Facilitator listed below.

High Entropy Materials (HEM) Interdisciplinary Research Group

Objective: Connect existing activities and interest in High Entropy Materials (HEMs) and explore potential research opportunities with an eye on obtaining additional research funding.
Faculty Champion: Dr. Vladimir Dobrosavljevic, Professor of Physics
RD Staff Facilitator: Dr. Tracy Ippolito

ISL Advanced Technology Working Group

Objective: Explore and leverage emerging technologies such as AI to improve the quality of life for older adults. Focus on technologies that can be integrated into daily living, assist with health monitoring, and provide cognitive and social engagement.
Faculty Champion: Dr. Zhe He, Associate Professor & Interim Director for the Institute for Successful Longevity (ISL)

ISL Basic Science Working Group

Objective: Investigate the fundamental biological, psychological, and social mechanisms of aging. This group aims to uncover new knowledge that could lead to groundbreaking treatments and preventive strategies.?
Faculty Champion: Dr. Ravi Nagpal, Assistant Professor in Health, Nutrition, and Food Science

ISL Clinical Research Working Group

Objective: Enhance clinical practices and interventions that improve health outcomes for the older adults. This group will focus on translational research that bridges the gap between laboratory research and practical, clinical applications.
Faculty Champion: Dr. Julia Sheffler, Assistant Professor in Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine
RD Staff Contact: Dr. Rachel Goff-Albritton

Math Interest Group

Objective: The purpose of this group is to connect faculty in the math learning/education research space across the different units, to assist with sharing research with a broader group, foster collaborations (e.g., funding opportunities), and provide an avenue to share resources.
Faculty Champion: TBD
RD Staff Facilitator: Dr. Cynthia Norris

SYNC - Synergy for Neuromodulation Communities

Objective: This is a group of faculty researchers and clinical partners who are broadly interested in neuromodulation techniques (e.g., transcranial magnetic stimulation, virtual reality, music therapy and sensory neuromodulation) and the underlying mechanisms through which impact symptom management and overall well-being.
Faculty Champion: Dr. Andy Kozel, Professor, FSU College of Medicine and Director, FSU Neuromodulation
RD Staff Facilitator: Dr. Nicole Viverito
