Higher Ed. Community Rallies Around New COVID-19 Relief Asks
As the White House and leaders on the Hill continue to discuss the general contours of a next major phase (#5) of COVID-19 financial relief, the higher education community has put forward targets that reflect unmet needs. The advocacy community seeks $97 billion for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). The figure represents a recent estimate of a $120 billion in need minus $23 billion provided HEERF in the relief-FY21 package that was signed into law last month. Additionally, $26 billion is requested to provide relief to current federally supported research projects that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. The FSU Office of Federal Relations will continue to work with partners in academia and the Florida congressional delegation to make certain that our community's COVID-19 related needs are clear.
